Teacher – IB Economics (+IB English Language Support)

Teacher IB Economics (+ IB English Language support)

Bilkent High School (Özel Bilkent Lisesi), an International Baccalaureate (IB) World Continuum School, invites applications from suitably qualified teachers to develop and teach IBDP Economics and MYP electives in Grade 10 (also to support English Language teaching), as part of our IB Diploma (grades 11/12) and our MYP programmes (Grade 10).

The school is initiating an IBDP Diploma Group 3 Economics option in the 2020-21 academic year. We envisage 6 hours/weekly for Grade 11 in the first year of offering this course (one section), and 12 periods in year two (two sections). This course is a new addition to the programme and the successful candidate should be prepared to develop and deliver the required curriculum. Economics will also be offered as an elective in Grade 10 and we envisage two sections (possibly 3) for a weekly course load of 4 to 6 hours. Thus, in year one of the contract the successful candidate will teach between 10 and 12 periods of economics; in year two this will rise to between 16 and 18 periods. The remaining contractual hours will be taken up by the Foreign Languages Department to support colleagues teaching English in the IB DP or MYP programmes. The school is currently assessing its Theory of Knowledge (TOK) needs for the coming year and the possibility exists of the economics teacher being assigned a 3 period/weekly TOK course. Teachers also teach club hours (2 periods per week) by offering an area of interest to attract club members.

The school seeks a highly motivated Economics teacher with a strong sense of responsibility, wishing to work in a professionally demanding environment, as part of a team of national and international teaching staff.

A minimum of two years high school level teaching experience is required; opportunities for further IB training are provided. Teachers teach up to 24 periods (40 minutes each) per week and ensure students meet both IB (DP and MYP) and national curriculum requirements. In addition, teachers are expected to be actively involved in the school community, including extra-curricular activities both during and after school time.

Bilkent High School is on the campus of Bilkent University, one of Turkey’s most prestigious institutions of higher education. The High School provides teachers with a professional, stimulating place to work, with opportunities for further professional development including official IB training workshops, support in becoming an IB external examiner, and the opportunity to study for an MA in Curriculum and Instruction within the University’s Graduate School of Education, provided entry criteria are met.
